Microsoft made over 100 updates and announcements in July 2025 for the Microsoft 365 platform. Don’t have time to read them all? We’ve gone through all of them and put together what we feel are the most important updates for you to be aware of.

Microsoft Teams is introducing a new feature that helps users stay organized and easily return to important conversations. Starting in August, users will be able to save any message, whether it is a chat, post, or reply, and access it later from a dedicated Saved view.

To do this, users will click the three-dot menu on any chat, post, or reply and select "Save this message" From here, users will be able to view all saved messages in the "Saved" section of their Chat and Teams list.

Microsoft has assured us that while saved chats do save a copy of the message, retention policies which are applied to the original item will also follow the copied item which lives in the Saved section.

This change comes alongside various other UI and UX changes over the past few months, such as more flexible window and app resizing, and various enhancements to the Copilot and agents interface.

Microsoft has highlighted key improvements aimed at reducing IT friction and enhancing cross-platform device management. A major focus is on streamlining Mac support through the general availability of Local Admin Password Solution (LAPS) for macOS automated device enrollment, enabling secure, rotating admin credentials. For Windows, wildcard support in Endpoint Privilege Management (EPM) simplifies rule creation for dynamic file versions, reducing administrative overhead. Additionally, Intune now supports platform-specific device cleanup rules, allowing tailored lifecycle management for Windows, iOS/iPadOS, macOS, and Android. These updates collectively aim to minimize time-consuming credential and rule management tasks, improving IT efficiency and end-user satisfaction.

Microsoft has announced the general availability of linkable token identifiers, a new feature designed to enhance identity threat detection and response. These identifiers allow security teams to trace a user’s session across Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Graph workloads using a unique Session ID generated at authentication. This innovation improves the precision of incident investigations by correlating activities across services like Teams, SharePoint, and Exchange Online, helping distinguish malicious sessions from legitimate ones. It also reduces reliance on less reliable indicators like IP addresses and enables more effective detection of threats such as remote phishing and malware attacks. Integration with Microsoft Defender XDR further supports threat hunting and custom detection creation.

Microsoft has announced the general availability of Microsoft Connected Cache for Enterprise and Education organizations. This solution helps reduce internet bandwidth consumption by locally caching Microsoft content—such as Windows 11 upgrades, Intune provisioning, and Teams updates—on devices within an organization’s network. It supports deployment on Windows Server, Windows Desktop, and Linux (Ubuntu and RHEL), and now includes HTTPS support for secure content delivery. Connected Cache works alongside Delivery Optimization to improve update efficiency and user experience. It is free for organizations with eligible Windows Enterprise or Education licenses and can be deployed via the Azure Marketplace without incurring Azure costs.

Microsoft has announced the general availability of RDP Multipath for Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365. This feature enhances remote session reliability by dynamically evaluating multiple UDP network paths and switching to the most stable one in real time, ensuring seamless connectivity even during network disruptions. It requires no additional configuration beyond RDP Shortpath support and leverages Microsoft’s global infrastructure to reduce latency. Users can now view connection status directly from the session bar, while admins gain access to detailed insights via Azure Virtual Desktop Insights, with similar tools coming soon for Windows 365. The rollout is phased to ensure quality and stability across environments.

Starting mid-August, Microsoft Places is rolling out a redesigned desk booking experience across desktop and mobile platforms. For Teams Premium users, this update changes how reservations are presented in the Places app and calendar (New Outlook, Teams, and OWA), offering a more intuitive and flexible interface for hybrid work environments. The deployment is expected to be complete by the end of September, and available in all tenants with Teams Premium licenses and Desk reservations enabled through Microsoft Places.

The new experience supports both individually assigned and pooled desks, and introduces interactive floor maps, colleague proximity features, and enhanced booking options. Admins can configure policies such as check-in requirements and desk assignment rules, while users can control visibility of their reservations.

Key Features Include:
* Unified booking across productivity apps such as Teams and Outlook
* Interactive maps with fallback support for unmapped spaces
* Partial-day and multi-day reservations
* Delegate booking for executive assistants
* Real-time availability for drop-in desks

Microsoft shares that no action is required by admins, however it is highly recommended to update floor maps and communicate this change to users.

Microsoft 365 Copilot will enhance presentation creation with improved content depth, narrative flow, structure, and design, saving presentations to OneDrive. The update rolls out worldwide from mid to late August 2025, requires no admin action, and has some limitations, like no template selection at launch.

During July, the prebuilt Invoice Processing model was updated to begin using v4.0 (GA) in AI Builder. New fields have been added to include:
     * TotalDiscount – Captures any Total discount field identified on the invoice.
     * KVKNumber – Includes the unique identifier for businesses registered in the Netherlands.
     * PaymentDetails – Provides a List of payment details (IBAN, SWIFT and more).
     * TaxDetails – Provides a List of tax details (amount, rate of the tax detail).
     * PaidInFourInstallments – Provides a List of tax details (amount, due date).
     * Items – Provides a List of line items.
No action is expected unless your workflow uses dynamic content that may be impacted by the new fields.

Microsoft has added Sharing Links for Videos in SharePoint, and is expecting rollout of this feature to be completed by Early August. Sharing Links will be automatically generated when videos are shared via a page or news article and are stored on the site to ensure the accessibility of the video. When a video is added to a page or news article from an external source, an updated dialog box will appear to give users more control over how the video is added and the type of link that's created. This feature is on by default and applies to videos added via the File and media web part or the Stream web part.
